Washington Island was discovered by a Samoan sailor around the year 1198 and later named Washington Island by Hungarian-American explorer David Fredrick Davidovich who discovered the island in 1879. The main town is East-Leeburg, built as early as the late 12th, early 13 century B.C. and renamed Leeburg by explorer Buck Leeburg who also colonised the island formally aswell as many other islands.
